#9 Yes, I Forgot Digby!!!!

I mentioned in the last blog that I would save Digby for later. It looks like this is later. We’ll head to Lunenburg next. Hope you don’t mind.

While we were at Jaggers Point we found a really cool bike path right outside the campground entrance. What a fun ride! It had its bumps but the ebikes handled them well. The path led us right into the little town of Digby. It was a beautiful day for a ride.

Lookin’ pretty professional Pam.
The day couldn’t be more beautiful

There were so many cute areas in Digby and the quaint fishing village was decorated to provide max photo ops.

I’m sure the Wizard is in here.

While in town we visited several gift shops. I know that surprises you. Pam decided to purchase some lip stuff. Trust me, it wasn’t gloss. We exited the shop and in unison we looked at Pam. Her lips were lavender. Seriously lavender. She tried to wipe it off but no go.

And here’s Lavender Lips now.

We were a little hungry after our ride to town so we looked for an early dinner spot. There were several cafes and bars on Water Street. We decided on the Fundy Restaurant. When we walked in, it appeared empty. We patiently waited by the tank of live lobsters. Eventually, someone noticed us and led us to this beautiful windowed room with a gorgeous view of the Bay of Fundy. That view never gets old.

I don’t remember my main meal but I do remember the appetizer, Digby scallops wrapped in bacon. We split the appetizer. If I had known, I would have ordered two appetizers and skipped the meal. After the split, there were two luscious looking scallops on my plate.

I know, you’d like to jump right into this photo to snatch that scallop.

I popped the first scallop in my mouth. It was sweet, tender and succulent. It was so delicious I didn’t want to swallow. I wanted to savor the flavor forever. The second one was just as mouthwatering as the first.

I Have had bay scallops, sea scallops, fresh from the market scallops and scallops in restaurants from New Jersey to Florida but none will ever rival the taste and texture of a Digby scallop. I am scalloply ruined.

The next morning, I awoke still dreaming about those scallops. Do you think I could be overly obsessed? Well maybe, but I wasn’t alone. Our biking pals, Judy and Michele were ready to head back to the Fundy Restaurant for “Breakfast”.

Doesn’t that smile say it all?

This time, I do remember that I had eggs benedict and we sat on the back porch enjoying the view. But clearly and indelibly printed on my brain is another order of the Digby scallops wrapped in bacon. Sounded like breakfast to me. And yes, they were just as delectable as the evening before.

Oh yes, and before I leave this blog about Jaggers Point, we managed to find and visit a cool winery nearby. We also found some other caravanners who enjoy visiting wineries as much as we do. We met at Bear River Winery that afternoon after breakfast. It’s never too early to sip.

Hi Bonny, Gwen, Jim, Marty and of course, Pam. Look at the vineyards behind them. Magnificent!

We had a great tour of the winery. All of the grapes used in wine production are on the property. The process of wine making was unique in that it is entirely done by gravity. Once the grapes are harvested, they fill the current tasting room to the brim with grapes.

Imagine this room with floor to ceiling grapes.

They bring in a squeezing machine, (I’m sure there’s a more scientific name for it), open a hatch in the floor and start pressing. The juice flows into in a big container which was once used to store cow’s milk. Turns out, it works well for wine fermentation too. After fermentation, they move the juice to stainless gravity fed barrels. The operation and the winery is very cool and so are the winemakers.

Sorry, I didn’t get a picture of the vat but this is the room where the wine flows. You could eat off the floors. And look at that tongue and groove ceiling.

Of course, to be polite, we bought a few bottles for the road.

Now we can traipse to Lunenburg, where we will see Bluenose. Lunenburg is another favorite village on our trip. You don’t want to miss it so come along.
