#2 Hot Hot Hot

Helen and Steve (sister and brother-in-law) left us with an alternative to my phone. Although my plans do not include needing an alternative, we appreciated the thoughtful gift. Pam and I gave the unique device a test drive as we backed into our next campsite.

“Come on back”

I really like the idea of no monthly fee.

Georgia On My Mind

We spent one evening in a KOA near Kingsland, Georgia. Let’s just say it was so hot, my pores were open for business. I changed clothes 3 times and we finally gave up and spent the rest of the afternoon watching Suits on Netflix. Pam downloaded the series before we left home. That’s so funny because we didn’t think we’d have time to watch TV on this trip. There are surprises around every turn.

Lucca was happy because there was a dog park and she sniffed her way to joy.

Do you smell that?

The next day we were happy to head further north. Our idealistic optimism for cooler weather was in full out hopefulness. Let’s hurry. But there’s no heading anywhere until the work is done. This is the part of RVing that sways would-be wanderers into choosing the Holiday Inn over the Holiday Rambler.

The stinky slinky

It was a nice drive to our next stop. At least, I think it was. I slept most of the way. Pam had to disturb my sleep several times to find out which way she needed to go. I’m blaming my lethargy on the oppressive heat.

We crossed over the Savannah River on the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. It is a high and mighty bridge that climbs to the heavens. Beautiful! My out of the window pic doesn’t do it justice.

Over the river and to the woods.

Welcome to Skidaway Island

We spent the next 2 nights at Skidaway Island State Park. It is close to Savannah where we have the options of restaurants, nightlife, comedy buses and a smorgasbord of touristy fun activities. We were prepared for a fun day of play. Skidaway is also surrounded by emerald green marshes that extend for miles. The bayous and waterways reminded me of the book/movie, Where the Crawdads Sing.

Once the temperature dropped to 92, we unloaded our bikes and took a ride on the trails to an observation tower.

Please take the photo here. My deodorant is failing.

It was evening time and everyone from the campground was out and about taking in the trails. There were so many people and dogs and children combing the trails we decided to head back to the campground and try again tomorrow. Truth be told, we wanted to get into the AC.

We sat by the camper for awhile and look who came by to say good evening. Isn’t nice how everyone gets along in the forest?

Hip Hip Cheraw

After Skidaway Island, we spent 2 hot hot days at Cheraw State Park. We took a walk around the beautiful lake. Lucca enjoyed the lake too.

The next day we slept, we ate, we watched Netflix. That’s it. We were like 2 slugs scaling a boulder at top speed. Could we have a breeze please?

It was time to leave and you know the fun job that awaits. Yes, that’s sweat on my brow.

Family Time

On July 5th we arrived at Poplar Grove State Park on Jordan Lake in Raleigh, NC and set up camp.

We picked up dinner and drove to Julie and Bo’s house (my niece and her husband). It was a great family gathering. My sister and brother-in-law were there too. Bo played bar tender, my kinda guy, and made Boulevardiers (Cool word, right? Cool drink too). We had to try several combinations of bourbon and bitters before getting it right.

The next day we met the team at Costco. My great niece and nephew, Viola and Cole, love Costco. Our family was making a good attempt at liveliness that morning. Apparently, in the middle of the night, the bathroom had flooded and there was major bucket and mop clean up involved. Little sleep was had and the youngsters decided to rise before 7A. We all still had a fun time. It was wonderful to spend time with my family.

My sister gave us the cutest little towel for Lucca.

Look at that adorable little face.
Fashion Statement?

And we received the most amazing art work from our boy Cole. It is now displayed proudly. Thank you Cole.

Don’t ask, it’s not for sale.

On our way to Bull Run. Come along…
